Gain access to an ARM server running Linux OS, through the cloud

If you want to play with an ARM-based server, you can now apply to gain access to one online through the Linaro Developer Cloud.

The cloud service was announced in March but has finally gone live. It’s mainly targeted at developers who want to evaluate ARM servers.

The free service is one way to access ARM servers, which aren’t widely available. Applications go through an approval process, and only those serious about programming for ARM servers will likely be approved.

Developers will get remote access to bare-metal servers with ARM processors. Linaro has said servers will have ARM-based chips from Qualcomm, Cavium, and Huawei, and users will be able to select specific hardware.

There are a handful of platforms emerging for managing containers at scale. Docker – the company that is credited with generating much of the market buzz about containers – has its own tool called Swarm. Google – which has said that most of its internal apps run in containers – has open sourced its own container management platform named Kubernetes.

Amazon cuts cost of running Oracle’s database in its cloud

Amazon Web Services now lets companies run Oracle’s database for about 3 cents per hour, while at the same time adding more options for enterprises that want to move high-performance workloads to the cloud.

The offering that makes this possible is Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service), which aims to offer cheap and resizable capacity, and take over many database administration tasks.

The last two months have seen Amazon step up its efforts to make RDS and its cloud a viable option for running databases. Improvements include using SQL Server Enterprise Edition without buying separate licenses, the general availability of its own MySQL-compatible Aurora database, and an increase of the maximum database storage size.

Creatine Questions, Everything You Need Answered

What is Creatine used for as a supplement? Creatine is one of the most widely used sports supplements today. Thousands of athletes, body builders and sports people all around the world use it. It’s primary function is as energy replenisher for ATP, this is produced naturally in the body, and made by the liver, kidneys and pancreas. It is then secreted into the blood, and around the body to muscle tissues. The chemical name is methylguanido-acetic acid, made from the three amino acids, methionine, arginine and glycine.

Creatine – does it work? Supplements do exactly that – supplement. But, yes, creatine, when taken at the right dose, will help a person receive the desired effects. Creatine is without doubt the most researched body building supplement of all-time, There is overwhelming evidence that it helps improve muscular performance. A good water intake is crucial for your health and athletic performance, irrespective of creatine use. Drink regularly and plenty daily, usually at least 2 litres per day. Thirst is not a good sign.

Can I still drink Alcohol? It is best to avoid alcohol, but in small amounts whilst using creatine it is acceptable as long it is not a regular thing. Alcohol is a diuretic, dehydrating you. If you do drink alcohol, make sure you take on plenty of water to keep up your hydration levels.

What are the side effects of creatine?
