Women after 50 use make up to reinvigorate the face and to get a youthful and fresh look. Therefore, the make up should be as light and as natural as possible. A heavy makeup on a mature face will accentuate the wrinkles and dark circles, creating an exhausted look. Here are some tips on how to use make up after 50.
The first step in any makeup is applying the foundation. Women over 50 need to use a very light foundation with the same color as their natural skin tone. It is recommended to use primers before foundation, as primers smooth over wrinkles and tighten the skin.
If you like to use eyeliner, do not use it on the lower lash line. It will draw attention to the dark under eye circles and you don’t want that. Draw just a thin line on the upper lash line.
Use soft colored eyeliners. Toss the black one, it is too harsh. Use brown and gray instead.
After 50 the eyelids get softer and more sensitive. Hard tip eyeliner will irritate their soft tissue, so go for a soft pencil or a gel.
Avoid smokey eyes make up. It will make you look more burned out than beautiful. Use an eye brightener or highlighter to help balance out dark eye makeup. Use it in the inner corner of the eye and under the brow.
Also, before applying eyeshadow, use an eyelid primer that will boost the eyeshadow endurance and smooth the fine lines.
Use concealer to mask the under eyes circles. Find a perfect matching color, test it on your skin before you buy it.
Never forget your brows! Nothing ages a face more than non existent brows. Shade your brows by using a sharp pencil and draw thin strokes, to look more natural. Use gray or brown, it will match most hair colors.
Always use mascara, at least one coat. Be aware that heavy mascara causes spider legs lashes. After your last coat of mascara, wipe your mascara wand on a piece of tissue, then drag the clean bristles through your lashes. This way the clumps will separate. Consider buying a set of false lashes too. They add instant dramatic glamor without any clumping and smudging. Use small strips just at the outer top corners and top with one coat of mascara to help them blend with the rest of your natural lashes.
After 50 the natural color of your lips fades. No problem, there are so many lipsticks on the market. Choose a soft color that matches your skin tone. Don’t use lip liner, unless it is a nude color.
After finishing the eyes, brows and lips, go for the blush. A natural looking blush will make you look young and fresh. Try to match your blush with the lipstick, it will look very good!
Finish your makeup routine with a light reflecting loose powder applied with a brush.
